A Family Portrait Session at Golden Hour

Filed in Portraits — November 26, 2025

As a Fairhope photographer, some sessions just feel extra special. This one did. This sweet family are also my friends, which made the entire experience even more meaningful. They wanted a natural setting so we planned their family portrait session at golden hour in a wide open field with trees in the distance. The light poured through the branches and gave us the soft, warm glow that Fairhope is known for. It was the perfect backdrop for their family portraits.

A Color Palette That Photographs Beautifully

The mom and I planned their wardrobe ahead of time. She had some great ideas already, but I love when my clients trust me to offer an opinion of what will pair nicely together. This family chose shades of burgundy, white, cream, khaki, and light and dark blues. These colors looked amazing together and photographed so well in the field! I edit with true to life colors, warm tones, and bright, clean light. Their outfits worked perfectly with that style.

Starting With the Youngest

I started the session with the youngest boys. They moved through their photos quickly and I quietly bribed them to keep helping which worked, haha. The youngest son is one of my own child’s closest friends and a regular playmate in our neighborhood, so having him in front of my camera made me smile. I loved getting these sweet portraits of the kids at these ages!

Every Combination That Matters

Once the boys were set, we worked through every combination that mattered to this blended family.

• Each boy
• All the boys together
• All the girls
• Mom with her boys
• Dad with his daughter
• Mom and stepdaughter
• Dad with all the kids
• Mom and dad

I also photographed the daughter and her fiancé and created a small set of engagement portraits for them. The fall trees made a gorgeous background for those. Their connection was so natural and easy and it showed in every image. I LOVE the way Logan makes his bride-to-be laugh! Speaking of laughs, I captured lots of those too!

Why Being Comfortable Makes It Better

Knowing this family changed the feel of the entire session. They trusted me and relaxed quickly. They laughed with each other. They were themselves. These kinds of moments are what I love most about being a Fairhope photographer. Personal connections always make photos more genuine.

Photos Made to Be Printed

This family values printed photos. I know these portraits will not live only online. They will be displayed in their home where the kids can see them every day. That makes my job feel so worth it. I cannot wait to see these images framed on their walls.

A Fairhope Family Portrait Session

This Fairhope family portrait session at golden hour was warm, relaxed, and full of love. Beautiful light. Beautiful colors. A beautiful family. Sessions like this remind me why I love photographing families along the Eastern Shore. If you are looking for a Fairhope photographer for your own family portraits, I would love to create something special for you too.
