There is something so special about photographing families as they grow. Getting to meet baby Scout after already documenting so many milestones for this family made this session especially meaningful. It seems not that long ago, I photographed Ryley’s maternity session while she was expecting her first daughter, photos of when they brought her home, and now I had the honor of capturing their family again as they welcomed their newest little girl.

At just three weeks old, Scout was absolutely precious during her at-home newborn session. Lifestyle newborn sessions are some of my favorite sessions because they tell the story of this season of life exactly as it is. Rather than rushing out the door with a brand-new baby, families can relax in the comfort of their own home while we document all of the little moments they’ll want to remember forever.

A Meaningful Family Heirloom

One of my favorite details from Scout’s session was the outfit she wore. Ryley dressed her in the very same bonnet and gown that her big sister wore for her newborn photos. I always love when families incorporate sentimental pieces like this because they instantly become part of their family’s story. Looking back at both galleries side by side will be so special for years to come.

We spent most of the session in Scout’s beautifully decorated nursery, where the soft light created the perfect setting for timeless newborn portraits. We captured sweet images of Scout on her own, cuddled safely in her mama’s arms, and plenty of moments with her proud big sister.

Watching Andi Become a Big Sister

One of the sweetest parts of the morning was watching Andi step into her new role as big “Sissy.” She was gentle, excited, and so proud of her baby sister. Those sibling moments are always some of my favorites because they’re filled with genuine curiosity and love.

We also photographed Ryley with both girls together, creating beautiful portraits that celebrate this new chapter for their family. Watching Ryley confidently care for Scout reminded me just how naturally parents settle into life with baby number two. She handled every feeding, cuddle, and outfit change with such calm confidence, making the entire session feel relaxed and effortless.

The Beauty of an At-Home Newborn Session

After photographing inside, we stepped outdoors for a few family portraits near the zinnias mom planted in the yard. They made such a colorful backdrop and added another personal touch to the session. These are the kinds of details that make in-home newborn photography so unique. Your home, your yard, and the spaces you’ve created all become part of your family’s story.

Some of my favorite photographs weren’t even the posed ones. I loved capturing a few behind-the-scenes moments of Dad keeping Andi entertained, helping with Moose, the family dog, and making everyone laugh between photos. Those candid moments often become the images families treasure the most because they reflect what life truly looked like during those early weeks.

Documenting Your Family’s Story

Photographing this growing family again was such an honor. From Ryley’s first maternity session to welcoming Andi into the world, and now baby sister Scout, it’s been a joy to document these milestones together. Seeing families return as their stories continue to unfold is one of the greatest gifts of being a photographer.
