There are few places better for engagement photos than Fairhope, Alabama, especially when you get to spend an evening beneath mossy oak trees and along the shores of Mobile Bay. Anna and Jonathan’s Fairhope engagement session gave us the perfect combination of classic Southern scenery, waterfront views, and beautiful evening light.

Anna and Jonathan are getting married next spring at Little Point Clear, and I loved getting the chance to photograph them before their wedding day. An engagement session is such a fun way to slow down, spend some time together, and get comfortable in front of the camera before the wedding arrives.

Engagement Photos Under the Mossy Oaks

We started Anna and Jonathan’s engagement photos beneath the beautiful moss-covered trees near Mobile Bay. The oak trees are one of my favorite features of the Fairhope area and create a timeless backdrop that feels distinctly Southern without taking the focus away from the couple.

Anna wore a flowy blue floral dress that moved beautifully throughout the session. Jonathan coordinated perfectly in a navy sport coat with a lighter blue dress shirt. Their blue tones looked especially nice against all of the greenery beneath the oaks and later against the blue water of Mobile Bay.

Starting here also gave us plenty of variety before heading closer to the water. The warm, soft golden hour light filtering through the trees was perfect for relaxed portraits as we made our way toward the bay.

Mobile Bay Engagement Photos at Sunset

For the second part of their Fairhope engagement session, we used the nearby pier and sandy beach area along Mobile Bay. Having several different settings within a short distance is one of the reasons I love photographing engagement sessions in Fairhope.

The pier gave us clean lines and open views of the bay, while the sandy shoreline created a softer, more relaxed setting. We timed the session for the evening so that the light continued to get softer and prettier as we approached sunset.

With mossy trees, the pier, sand, and Mobile Bay all within the same session, Anna and Jonathan ended up with a gallery that feels cohesive while still offering plenty of variety.

Looking Ahead to Their Little Point Clear Wedding

Anna and Jonathan will be getting married next spring at Little Point Clear, a beautiful wedding venue just outside Fairhope. Their engagement session made me even more excited to photograph the two of them again on their wedding day.

Engagement photos are about more than having beautiful pictures before the wedding. They also give us a chance to work together before the big day. By the time the wedding arrives, my couples already know what it feels like to be photographed by me, making portraits on the wedding day feel that much more natural.
