What could be a more beautiful place for a Fairhope proposal than beneath the mossy oak trees at The Grand Hotel during golden hour. Hunter planned the sweetest surprise for Loghan while the two were visiting Fairhope, Alabama, where they have family. With warm evening light, a beautiful oak tree, and Mobile Bay nearby, it was the perfect setting for him to ask one very important question.

Planning a Surprise Fairhope Proposal

Hunter reached out to me in advance and secretly hired me to photograph his proposal to Logahn. We planned for him to propose on the grounds of The Grand Hotel at golden hour, when the light would be soft and beautiful for both the proposal itself and the engagement portraits afterward.

Loghan knew an engagement was somewhere on the horizon. In fact, she had even helped design her ring! What she didn’t know was exactly when Hunter planned to propose.

That made the surprise even sweeter.

A Golden Hour Proposal Under the Mossy Oaks

Hunter chose one of the gorgeous mossy oak trees on the Grand Hotel property as the proposal location. As the two made their way to our planned spot, I was nearby with my cameras ready.

Under the oak tree and surrounded by that unmistakable Southern scenery, Hunter got down on one knee and asked Loghan to marry him. She said yes!

And waiting for her was the ring she had helped dream up: a beautiful yellow gold marquise engagement ring with a hidden halo.

Engagement Portraits at The Grand Hotel

After the proposal, we spent some time exploring the property for their first portraits as an engaged couple.

One of my favorite things about photographing a Fairhope proposal at The Grand Hotel is the variety of beautiful locations available without ever having to leave the property. We photographed Logan and Hunter beneath the mossy oak trees before heading toward the lagoon and eventually making our way to the waterfront.

Loghan wore a blue cotton dress, while Hunter coordinated perfectly in a blue button-up. Their outfits looked especially pretty against the greenery, water, and warm tones of the evening.

We finished their portraits along Mobile Bay as the sun began to set over the water. It was such a beautiful ending to an already exciting evening.

Celebrating Their Engagement in Fairhope

The celebration wasn’t ending with the proposal. Hunter planned dinner reservations and a stay at The Grand. The following night, Loghan’s and Hunter’s families would gather at The Hope Farm in Fairhope for an engagement party celebrating the newly engaged couple. Since they were already in town visiting family, Hunter’s proposal turned their trip to Fairhope into an entire weekend of celebrating this new chapter together.

From a quiet moment beneath a mossy oak tree to sunset portraits along Mobile Bay and a family celebration the following evening, it was such a special way to begin their engagement.
